Octopus multi-branches – network
When we started developing the Octopus 5 years ago, we decided to use standalone databases (decentralized model) to deal with the vicissitudes of the Internet in developing countries. It is still the most interesting in most areas where the internet connection is weak or random: each branch can continue to work regardless of Internet connection (which is not possible with a centralized solution) . In this sense, we have always sought to maximize Octopus to make it as simple as possible to maintain without needing help from a technician. Backups and restores of databases are as simple as saving a file in Excel, migration to new versions of Octopus are semi-automated.
With the democratization of the Internet in recent years, especially by satellite in rural areas, we evolve our offering to suit the most demanding needs of MFIs:
1> Automated backup agent: the agent runs independently of Octopus and makes a daily backup of the database, it sends to an FTP server. The differential backup is: what type of backup is better than a full backup because it allows focusing only on modified files with a smaller storage space (at most a few hundred kilobytes), the remote server with the previous backups to restore the full backup. We use these backups especially for SaaS consolidation. Learn more about the agent backup
2> Saas consolidation: it is a consolidation solution for performing MFIs with multibranches: Each branch sends its data to one of our dedicated servers, on which a consolidating agent is installed, and build consolidated reports. The client accesses reports via Octopus in the same way it accesses its local reports. Octopus connects to the remote server and retrieves information consolidated (on a time base and branches). The reports are then published with Crystal Reports, printable and exportable to Excel.
3> Octopus installed locally: in one building, several client computers Octopus can work on the same database on a local server.
4> Octopus remote control (under refactoring) for MFIs with at least a 512kbps internet connection, it is possible to operate Octopus with Microsoft technology. NET remoting.A thin client is installed on each client computer, an agent on the server where the SQL database is installed. Learn more about Octopus Remote Control
5> Octopus + Terminal: for MFIs with low internet connection and yet wishing to operate Octopus in client / server, you can use Microsoft Terminal Server (licensed). Learn more about Terminal and Octopus
