I. JOB DESCRIPTION:

About the organization

Octopus Microfinance, a microfinance software marketed worldwide, is part of OXUS, a dynamic group of microfinance institutions (MFIs) with a team of 1 000 staff operating in Central Asia (Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and Africa (Congo DRC).

Octopus Microfinance is located in Kyrgyzstan where a team of 15 staff develops the software and provides value-added services to its customers (OXUS and non-OXUS MFIs).

Paris-based organization OXUS was created in 2005 by the French international NGO ACTED. Operating since 1993, ACTED currently is active in 40 countries, with a team of 4 500 staff. Through an interdisciplinary approach, ACTED implements projects in various field such as emergency relief, food security, economic development and microfinance.

About the job

Under the direct supervision of the OXUS CEO, representative of OXUS Holding, Octopus Microfinance is looking for a Managing Director to manage the company and supervise operations.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and overall management: the Managing Director leads and manages Octopus Microfinance within the strategy approved by OXUS Holding. He actively contributes to the development, design and implementation of the strategic plan.

Financial management: the Managing Director monitors and controls the company’s performance and finances in accordance with the budget approved.

Human resources: the Managing Director ensures that all staff are effectively employed and adequately trained, supported and supervised to perform their responsibilities.

Legal: the Managing Director negotiates contracts with consultants, auditors and lawyers as needed.

Reporting: the Managing Director provides regular reports on the company’s plan and performance.

Technical and functional roadmap: In cooperation with the CTO and the Product Owner, the Managing Director creates and supervises the technical and functional roadmap.

Client support and other services: The Managing Director supervises services provided to clients and the quality and deadlines of services delivered. He’s in charge of the overall planning for implementations and is responsible for the right delivery of services. He also supervises the client support team and ensures that clients’ requests are delivered in time as defined in the client contracts and with the right level of satisfaction.

Business development: The Managing Director manages business development and day-to-day relationship with clients.

Marketing and communication: the Managing Director is responsible to implement the marketing and communication strategy of Octopus Microfinance.

Organization and procedures: The Managing Director is responsible for maintaining up-to-date all procedures and tools. He’s in charge of the overall knowledge management of the company and ensures integrity of our internal tools.

III. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Professional qualifications / training
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the microfinance and/or banking sector.
  • Management experience of at least 3 years required
  • Visionary project designer with experience in business development, software and IT solutions
  • Results-driven executive with extensive record of launching and growing successful projects
  • A team player with demonstrated ability to lead teams and projects. Ability to interact, negotiate and gain buy in from both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with “can do” mentality – demonstrating a real passion for making things happen
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advance techniques in planning, monitoring and controlling programs
  • High level of energy, creativity, flexibility, enthusiasm and commitment, self-confidence and initiative
  • Excellent abilities of technical writing and documentation

IV. CONDITIONS:

  • Salary defined by the OXUS salary grid upon educational level and expertise
  • Additional monthly living allowance
  • Lodging provided at the organisation’s guesthouse/or housing allowance (depending on contract length and country of assignment)
  • Transportation costs covered, including additional return ticket + luggage allowance
  • Provision of medical, life, and repatriation insurance
