Start-up of Octopus ONline Services

A ‘Software as a Service’ version of Octopus is now available at www.octopusnetwork.org/online . ‘Octopus ONline’ allows MFIs staff to launch the software and access their data from any computer with an internet connection. It offers the same level of usability and a higher degree of security as the database maintenance is carried out by OCTO Technology.
A step-by-step configuration wizard help the administrator parameterize the software in a few clicks.
The creation of an account and the use of the services are free for small institutions (read the Terms of Use on the website for further information).
The ‘classic’ version of Octopus is of course still available and continuously improved.

Beside the site www.octopusnetwork.org where it is still possible to discover the project and download the software, Microfinance Practitioners, VARs and developers can now find further sources of information on the Octopus Community Website: (www.octopusnetwork.org/community).
This collaborative platform aims at gathering useful information for Octopus Community members. You will find there tutorials and videos to learn how to configure and use the software, a forum to ask technical questions and a blog where we provide news from the Community.

    A new new release of Octopus is available for download. New features: * Hybrid fees: it's now possible to cumulate several sort of penalties (based on total amount, based on OLB, based on Overdue principal and based on overdue interest). * The user can now repaid in external currency.
    Octopus in India

    A testing phase of Octopus Micro Finance Suite has begun in Delhi and in the states of Rajasthan and Orissa. In total, 10 MFIs are currently testing its functionnalities. Soon we will be able to assess the gap between the software and the needs of Indian Organisations regarding MIS software. Then, adaptations will be done so that Octopus be able to support the activities of as many Indian MFIs as possible.

    If you want to join the Indian Octopus Community by testing our software; please contact Arnaud COLIN, Octopus manager for India. He will help you in the installation and appropriation of Octopus and will gather your feedback about its functionnalities.

    Octopus will be presented at the fifth annual central Asia Microfinance conference on September 20 2007 6PM-7PM in Dushanbe Tadjikistan.
    This year focus subject is : Microfinance in Central Asia: The Road Ahead.
    This conference is organized by the Association of Micro Finance Organizations of Tadjikistan (AMFOT) and the Central Asia Micro Finance Alliance (CAMFA).

    Octopus has been presented at the Agile 2007 conference in Washington DC as an experience report. We presented some agile methods we use for developing Octopus. An agile software development applied to our imperfected world. We got a great feedback from attendies.
    PlaNet Finance now distributes "Octopus MicroFinance"

    Planet Finance and OCTO Technology announce their partnership in the distribution of Octopus MicroFinance Suite (OMFS), free and integrated management software for young, expanding Microfinance Institutions (MFIs).

    This collaboration between the two partners means that the software is now distributed in the form of a ready to use "consultancy, installation and support" package, costing between €10,000 and €25,000 (depending on the number of sites to be set up); €1,000 to €5,000 per year provides support. PlaNet Finance provides the consultancy while OCTO ensures effective installation, including data migration, and support during the period.

    With this new technology, PlaNet Finance strengthens its leader's position in supporting and following closely the evolution of the MFIs in the world.
